Nele Brughmans
Nele Brughmans lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium. Having grown up in a village surrounded by nature throughout her youth, she naturally incorporates the influence of this early environment into her work.
Travelling is the greatest inspiration for her paintings. Her journeys infuse her work with new perspectives and stories. The blend of influences from nature and urban life results in a unique artistic language that reflects her diverse experiences. Often, her subjects are neither obvious nor traditionally considered beautiful.
Throughout her paintings, you’ll recognise her characteristic thick and rough textures, applied with spontaneous energy. This technique differs from the smaller, highly detailed sections. The combination of these contrasting techniques conveys a personal experience.
Her work draws inspiration from renowned artists like Bram Bogart, whose textured surfaces have impacted her style, and the Belgian painter Nils Verkaeren, known for his impressive and touching landscapes. Additionally, she admires Kristof Santy for his exquisite portrayal of reality
